HACC Midtown Campus

Background

HACC was interested in creating a technology and trades facility in midtown Harrisburg. An existing 125,000 square foot 3-story plus basement concrete structure building was renovated to house spaces specifically designed for hands-on learning that replicated real-life on-the-job experiences, as well as classroom space

Scope of Project

Plumbing

New restrooms were created on all floors with new sanitary and domestic piping. Plumbing was also installed for a new café located on the first floor. New gas piping was installed to boilers and training equipment as well as cooking appliances.

Electrical

A new 3000A, 277/480V, 3P4W switchboard with and utility transformer were installed for the electrical service. Switchboard had electronic breakers and TVSS. Two 1600A busways were installed to provide circuits for panelboards and transformers located on each floor. Lighting consisted of mainly fluorescent recessed fixtures, except computer classrooms received recessed indirect fluorescent fixtures. Lighting control was accomplished using lighting control panels, vacancy and occupancy sensors, and local switching. General and specific use receptacles were installed as required for training and general use power. Emergency power for egress lighting was provided by an indoor natural gas powered generator. A fully addressable fire alarm system was included with voice evacuation notices and strobe units.
