Scope of Project

The Pennsylvania State University’s Research West Project was an energy-saving project with the Efficiency Network, with G.R. Sponaugle working with the team through design and construction. G.R. Sponaugle performed the HVAC and electrical work for the project.

The project consolidated multiple exhaust systems through one energy recovery unit and make-up air unit to save energy. The building was also connected to the central chilled water systems, thus eliminating multiple small chillers – thus saving energy. Three mechanical rooms were renovated with new steam to hot water heat exchangers along with new, more efficient pumping systems. A portion of the building was renovated with new VAVs and hot water coils. All together, these provided up-grades, with positive energy savings.
